Loire Atlantique Gites

A warm welcome awaits you when you arrive at our Loire Atlantique Gites “Les Quatre Clès” in Guémené Penfao to stay in La glycine, Le chèvrefeuille, Le camélia or at Coeur de Chéne in Soulvache; we make a point of always greeting our guests in person and showing you around because we believe in the personal touch.   At Les Quatre Clès, as we live on site we’re on hand to help whenever we can but without being intrusive and Ian can be at Coeur de Chéne within the hour if needs be.   The total enjoyment of your holiday with us is of paramount importance and we will do everything we can to ensure your stay is a wonderful experience.

Les Quatre Clès was a farm building (longere) belonging to the Taillandier family and you will find a road named after a member of it alongside the supermarket complex in Guémené Penfao.   We are in a very tranquil and peaceful location with little traffic running past, which makes our gites a very secure and safe holiday venue.   The proximity to town gives us the best of both worlds as all amenities are within a 4 min drive or a 15 – 20 minute stroll alongside the River Don.

The longere is split into 4 Loire Atlantique gites; La glycine, Le chèvrefeuille, le jasmin (ours) and Le camélia.   Each one has a definite unique character, built with half metre thick stone walls which offers amazing insulation so the gites are cool in summer and warm in winter.  Above all else we hope we have created a home away from home in each for our guests.   We have tried to think of everything and by going the extra mile, all you need to bring apart from yourselves is your food, drinks and personal toiletries – everything else for a great self catering holiday is provided.  If you have any special requirements related to health, e.g., need hypoallergenic products, we will do our best to provide them for you if you let us know.   We minimise the use of chemical products in our cleaning regime as much as possible and if requested, we’d be happy to provide eco-balls for laundry instead of regular detergents.  And now for those who can’t live without their fingers on the pulse of the World Wide Web, we have internet connections in all 3 gites.  It’s not wifi as our thick stone walls are too impervious for that but you and your laptop can connect via unlimited ADSL .   

Outside, each gite has its own private paved patio with planted trellis between for privacy.   We provide a picnic table with parasol, BBQ, sun loungers and garden chairs and the huge south facing shared garden has a boules pitch, table tennis, a large swing set (even adults can have a go), a hammock, benches, a swing seat and soon to be completed, a unique play house in the shape of a Sussex barn made entirely from reclaimed pallet wood.   The other half of the garden is my allotment and I’m happy to provide guests with fresh vegetables at cost subject to availability.   There are also herb pots between the gites for guests to help themselves.

Alongside the longere is a dedicated gravelled parking area but cars can be driven to the gite doors to unload on arrival and load up for departure.

Coeur de Chéne is a lovingly renovated and extended detached cottage in its own huge secluded garden situated on the edge of a  tiny village 15km from Chateaubriant.  Down a quiet country lane with no neighbours overlooking it, it is a wonderful place to unwind and recharge frazzled batteries.   The garden is mainly laid to grass with large borders planted to give colour and interest in all seasons.   There are 2 picnic tables provided, one on the patio the other in the garden, parasols, gas BBQ, sun loungers and a washing line.  There is a large drive alongside the cottage giving ample space for 2 cars to park.
